Jaw Fracture Surgery is available at Dr Kalra's Orthodontic and Implant Centre. A fractured jaw is usually caused by a fall or a closed fist blow to the face. The mandible (lower bone) could be broken in several places. Pain, swelling, inability to close his mouth, teeth that do not fit properly, possibly missing or broken teeth, and difficulty speaking will be reported by the victim. If the fracture extends into the oral cavity, there may be bleeding. A bandage is wrapped around the top of the head and under the jaw to provide support. It should be easy to remove if the victim needs to vomit. Until the victim can be taken to the hospital, a liquid diet should be followed. Allow a person to sit if he has a significant facial injury, particularly if there is bleeding or vomiting, so he can lean forward and drain these fluids without choking. If he needs to be recumbent, don't put him on his back. Instead, put him in the recovery position.
